about

This song came about when Dalton Hagen wrote the intro breakdown and verse. He was going for an in your face breakdown that didn't repeat for 16 measures. After writing two really intricate breakdowns I sort of decided it was way too awesome and took over the song. I added the intro lead over the intro breakdown which was originally going to be the introduction of a techy cover of Capture the Crown's "Ladies and Gentlemen... I Give you Hell" I wrote when I was 17. Give it a listen if you dare and check out the synth in the intro, I made that into a technical guitar lead. Once I scrapped the cover I kept the lead and it had found a home with Dalton's breakdown. I then decided this was going to be the most technical song on the album, went balls out with riffs and leads and added a tasty chorus. The title comes from the film Event Horizon, which I can't recommend enough as an over the top scifi horror film.. The practical effects are on point and the CGI is amazing for the late 90's. Anyway, there is a line spoken, "Liberate tutame ex inferis" that always stuck with me. It comes at a pivotal point in the films plot and means "Save yourself from hell" in Latin, at least so the film says and my rough research backs up but what do I know? So the title Ex Inferis was chosen and it was made to be the epic album closer and concept trilogy finally. It bounces from the view points of the Ageless as they destroy the universe and humanity as they live their last night on earth. I figured it's the last song so we might as well end it with a bang and wrote the lyrics to be as brutally and scientifically accurate as I could. A good friend of ours, Leonard, lent me his Synyster Gates black and gold pinstripe custom so I could play around with the sustaniac and was able to use that for one small part on the track so big thank you to Leo! (Synyster Gates was also a huge influence on me when I started playing guitar and I had really wanted one of his guitars for most of my teen years). We decided to throw in some song call backs; the piano in the first verse plays at the end of the Ageless, The dissonant lead from the REAL O.D.W. breakdown reappears at the end of the track, and Dalton Hill played the Grey Poupon chorus guitar melody towards the middle. We are all really big Rick and Morty fans so we couldn't resist throwing in a little reference to that show in there, so if you're a fan listen for it, you'll know what line it is. We decided what the hell and added another attempt at a little black metal part, which our vocalist nailed imo. Dalton Hagen also slayed it with his final two album takes, two massive dubbed 19 second long screams. With that we called it a day on the album, if you read this far you're a trooper and deserve a cookie. - Cody

lyrics

Throughout the ages man's salvation's been its ignorance.
It's a sickness, their existence; insignificant.
Faith misplaced in the skies above,
Your gods are but infinitesimal dust.

Before there was time, before there was anything
Nothing but darkness reigned in supremacy.

We have been watching, we have been waiting
But we've grown tired of contemplating

I can't hold on I can't let go.
There's nothing left but hell below.
Look to the skies and say goodbye!
Tonight will be our final fight.

Systematic extinction:
Hypernova spewing gamma radiation causing universal sterilization.
Black holes, super massive in their size,
Will consume everything that's left behind.

Kill, conquer.
Slay, slaughter.
Annihilate, obliterate; totally eviscerate
Kill, conquer,
Slay, slaughter
Evolution down the drain,
Darkness can now reign again.

We will eclipse the sun.
There's nowhere you can run.
Space-time will feel our might,
And we have just begun.

Self-righteous fools!
Pious pigs!

Did you honestly believe that you were all alone?
For your arrogant ignorance we'll make dust of your bones.

I can't hold on I can't let go.
There's nothing left but hell below.
Look to the skies and say goodbye!
Tonight will be our final fight.
We've come so far to fall so hard.
There's nothing left to heal the scars.
Look to the stars and say goodbye!
Tonight will be our final plight.

The power of the ageless, unyielding and insurmountable, shall snuff out the light before the eyes of all.
The essence of life will be but a stain upon the passage of time.
Aeternum non potest liberate ex inferis.

I can't hold on I can't let go.
There's nothing left but hell below.
Look to the skies and say goodbye!
Tonight will be our final fight.
We've come so far to fall so hard.
There's nothing left to heal the scars.
Look to the stars and say goodbye!
Tonight will be our final night alive.

The necrosis of your sun will gift eight minutes of life
before you're draped in darkness;
dawn of eternal night.
We search for meaning while you thirst for war.
If humanity's just opened its eyes it could have been so much more. Countless kingdoms rose and fell
before your universe was born you think you truly know hell?
Well then show us what you've got!

Flesh peels off from the bone,
eyes melt not comprehending what they are shone.
Atoms exposed instantly decompose,
at a molecular level you will be cleansed of a soul.
Consciousness left to rot.
As if it mattered what you thought!
Know that you will feel almost none of the pain
after all the blood boils inside of your veins.

Doom.
