The Locust Effect is the idea that, just like a mass of grasshoppers can turn into a plague of locusts and destroy the hard work of a farmer, criminals practicing everyday violence can devastate the work of the global poor, or in our case a few bad apples at a protest can start a riot or a mob. We found the concept fascinating and extrapolated it to the human condition. This was a lyrical idea proposed by our bassist Dalton after he wrote the track and sounded like a super interesting concept for such a groovy tune! (Arguably the grooviest on the album).
Please note this song was written years in advance of the 2020 police brutality protests.

Violence, it festers like a freshly rotted corpse.
The stench of which can only grow.
Hatred seeps into the ground below
poisoning the seeds we sow.

Forced into the undertow,
misfortune weeds out hope,
breeding the swarm.
Swallowed by the grotesque horde,
we've hollowed to the point of no return.

Locked doors won't hide you from dismay
Unite as one and join the fray!
Unleash your inner fire,
dance as flames burn higher,
overthrow, now seize control!

Devour anything that dares move!
Destroy whatever you cannot consume!

Take flight, overwhelm them with sheer numbers.
Strike fear into their hearts, your might shakes like the thunder.
Prepare as the mob grows by the hour,
we cannot fall in this fight, we have the ultimate power.

One by one we have been wronged
pushed to the edge and then left out to rot.
Gathered as one we are strong,
built on the rampant lies we have been taught.
A monstrous mob;
Pulsating hatred that cannot be stopped.
Society is not what you thought.
The wretched will now be on top, bleh


We will spread like the plague.
We are one.

A mass of writhing souls lacking a human form
now begins to envelop the earth.
Like locusts to a crop, we are the swarm.
