about
This track originated when I was in a previous band( Called Between Mirth and Mayhem, which had the same drummer, bassist, and guitarists as we do now!) but we had broken up before I had written it completely and before we had practiced it. Originally I had wanted a more "Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis" by Trivium meets Jason Richardson style tech-deathcore song. I remember hearing some riffs on Chelsea Grin's Ashes to Ashes and Evolve Ep and hearing the intricate riffs over breakdowns and decided "Hey lets give that a try". I continued to write the entire track with Dalton adding bass. It went through a few choice names, "Jack the Stripper", "Playing God", and finally "The Ageless". We decided this song had a strong opening feel and decided to use this song to start a concept trilogy as well as the album. When Dalton Hagen finally joined we all put our heads together and crafted the tale of the eternal celestial beings known as "The Ageless". They existed before time and decided to transcend their own forms in a sort of quest for knowledge. They decided upon a cycle of death and rebirth of matter to start the universe. Their goal was to observe, (similar to "The Watchers" in Marvel comics but on a cosmic entity scale) and hopefully create beings of great knowledge whose intellect they, could harvest to transcend. Although as you can imagine the life cycle of a universe, from big bang to big crunch, is nigh inconceivable to humans or normal beings and so, eons pass.... (remember that piano melody at the end!) - Cody
lyrics
"Walking on the fragile thread of reality
these walls are all that keep us barred from divinity.
We are the ones who birthed structure from the darkness.
Is this existence significant?
To start the search we'll cycle death and rebirth;
We'll use the universe to purge the weak's existence.
Intellegence will without,
In time we will have no doubt,
We'll rid the system of its dissonance.
Create harmonic omnipotence
Rid the system of its dissonance.
Create, consumate, culminate what's retrograde.
Truncate, reprobabte, orchestrate the perfect state.
Kill, conqure. Slay, slaughter.
Annihilate all mistakes.
Facilitate what coruscates.
Transcendence through transgression.
Forced evolution breeds perfection.
We will wait eternally, wordlessly, watching fervently.
Life will bend to our will.
It's strange how chaos brings life.
An entire universe starts in the blink of an eye.
Stars explode as asteroids collide.
Fire burns the poison gas that fills the skies.
Eons pass.
And so it begins again;
Condensed matter re-expands
Smashing atoms at random.
Chaos brings life, order denied.
Shifting, searching, constantly observing.
Is this existence significant?
Transcendence through transgression.
Forced evolution breeds perfection.
We will wait eternally, wordlessly, watching fervently.
Life will bend to our will.
(Obligatory guitar solo)
Is this insanity?
The serpent feeds upon the meek.
Bringing death to those deemed weak.
We will bring life to its knees.
And so it begins again;
Condensed matter re-expands
Smashing atoms at random.
Chaos brings life, order denied.
Again, again, again, again.
Is this existence significant?"

Swiss Melodic Black / Death Metal. I never wrote anything about this & given that I listen to it time & again, I really should! This is incredibly technical & amazingy good! I am having multiple eargasms & goosebumps for the entire duration of the album! Plus they have a new album coming out in a couple of months that I cannot wait for! A criminally underrated band... Stortregn rule! Highly recommended!!! bmurator
I'm completely blown away by the complexity of this album. The vocals are amazing and the keyboards add so much atmosphere. The guitars, bass, and drum work endlessly flow together. So hard to pick a favorite song. Mike DeSnutz
Boy, they came a long way since their debut. Not that Disrepair wasn't any good or so, on the contrary. You'll understand what I mean, if you listen to both. In Extremis is a legit beast in every regard and clearly shows where Bereavement comes from. Awesome uptempo brutality with massive groove and fierce vocals. mourner
